A shower of ice cream

May 18, 2012

Golden shower (Cassia fistula, Fabaceae), pink shower (Cassia bakeriana), Cassia javanica and the white hybrid of Cassia fistula and Cassia javanica have been treated here before. Today I show you the remarkable flowers of an ‘orange golden shower’.

It reminds me of peach and raspberry ice cream and can be admired at the Dokmai Garden parking. Blooming late and with plenty of leaves and clearly pink sectors implies this is another clone of a Cassia fistula x Cassia javanica hybrid. A hybrid similar to our tree is called ‘rainbow shower tree’ and grows in Hawaii.

Like all other Cassia this is a sun-loving plant and so suitable as a pioneer tree in a recently established garden without shade.
