Is the rainy season over?

October 29, 2011

In spite of the current flooding in the capital Bangkok, Chiang Mai is now so dry we need to begin irrigating. Based on previous years’ weather patterns, it is likely the rainy season is over now. Some years we have had intensive rains even in the first week of November, but since the devastating rains three weeks ago there have not been much. That means: time to sow your vegetables!

The vegetable section at Dokmai Garden is constantly changing. During the rainy season it is mostly a place for perennials and rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa, Malvaceae) which you can see to the right. Many annual vegetables can not stand the heavy rains, but now is the time to plant them! In the background our wild mango tree. Yesterday I feared the embassy warnings would strike us hard. So far I have been very wrong. Lots of visitors from many countries, and many bookings. Thanks for believing in Thailand!
