Shooting stars

July 23, 2011

What are the stars scattered on the leaf litter all over Thailand this time of the year? They are the teak blossom (Tectona grandis, Lamiaceae)!

The upper two flowers are simply the discarded fused petals and the six male stamens. The female part will transform into a fruit (right). From a ladder I pinched off some flowering buds to complete the picture. Do you remember how different the leaf looked back in April?
