And so it has begun…

March 9, 2011

Instead of cherry blossom II: Cassia bakeriana (Fabaceae).

The pink shower tree is native to Thailand and Burma only, and provides clouds of pink and white blossom that may last for up to a month. This native tree demands a monsoon climate, so you must not water it in the dry season if you want blossom. It is sensitive to borers and Dendrophthoe parasites, so it demands frequent observation.

Welcome to Dokmai Garden where you can see an allée of pink shower trees!

I am quite sure you can, our climate is similar. You need seed and now is the time to collect them. If you pass Chiang Mai during the coming two months period then welcome here to pick some.

      Cheers, Eric

    Hi Eric

Can you suggest websites for plant/tree/fruit/veg identification?

    Cheers

      Dear Richard,

It is hard to find any such good site. That is why I wrote my book on Southeast Asian fruits and vegetables. If your local book store does not have it, ask them bring it from White Lotus. This blog, if read as a book, treats many plants you will recognize. The difficulties in identification and obtaining information is the reason for Dokmai Garden and Dokmai Dogma.
