A new book on gingers!

January 12, 2011

Did you know there are more than 1500 species of gingers? Their chief distribution is in Southeast Asia. In fact, the order of ginger plants encompass bananas and heliconias too. To cope with such an important group of plants, a new pedagogic book on gingers has been published:

Leong-Skornickova J & Gallick D (2010) The ginger garden. Singapore Botanic Gardens. Pictorial Pocket Guide 2.

The book contains 178 pages with colour illustrations of nearly 120 species. The superb photographs, the pedagogic approach and the compact format makes it ideal for beginners in tropical gardens. The initiative comes from Mr Tan Jiew Hoe, a Singaporean plant-lover and gentleman.

The book is available at Dokmai Garden and at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
