A strange flower

December 14, 2010

The Annona family (Annonaceae) is composed of plants with edible fruits and/or ornamental flowers. The other day we discovered this large, weird blossom at Dokmai Garden. It is Goniothalamus giganteus. This plant is native to southern Thailand, which is why you need to keep it in a moist shady area here in the much drier Chiang Mai.
