A hat in the monsoon garden

December 8, 2010

In the roasting tropical sun, it is important you protect your head. In a monsoon climate you can do it with elegance, since we do not expect a serious rain for another six months.  Most welcome to visit Dokmai Garden in Chiang Mai (Thailand) and try some of our hats.

The local ‘Bai Lan’ hat (meaning leaf of the talipot palm, Corypha umbraculifera) is elegant, cheap and useful. 100 Baht only!

The same hat as above. The inside contains a basket which adjusts to your head’s size, and keeps it cool by allowing air between the head and the hat. It is used by us and by Thai farmers and is simply ingenious!

Dokmai Garden is the sole importer of the German Mayser hats in Asia. This is their classical Panama hat, the original worn by royalties and movie stars worldwide. Suitable for men and women. 3 850 Baht.

Another hat from Mayser is this exclusive black drongo. We only have one, so the lady wearing this hat will know she is unmatched at any Asian garden party. 7 900 Baht.

During the hottest season a pure white Mayser hat might be the coolest option. 4 490 Baht

This is our cutest Mayser Hat, suitable for Flora and other goddesses. 3 600 Baht.
