Greetings from Koh Kood

September 8, 2010

Greetings from Soneva Kiri Resort! Eric Danell and I were invited here to give some suggestions for garden design. Soneva Kiri is located on the Thai island Koh Kood near the Cambodian border. Like Dokmai Garden, this is a place for the environmentally concerned and well educated visitor. It is also the right place for anybody who likes flawless quality and top class food and drinks. This is not the place for concrete lovers, as wood and bamboo are the chief materials in most constructions. Visitors are allowed to walk barefoot anywhere, and touching the wood with your bare feet is so nice. Another feature is the silence. Every villa has an electrical golf cart, and there are no noisy motorbikes within the premises, just the sound of the sea waves, birds, frogs and insects. Thailand has the best tourist service in the world, and Soneva Kiri may have the best staff in Thailand? Unlike many other Thai resorts, here all staff members seem to speak English, and they know the history and background of the resort, even being able to name architects. At governmental national park information offices, the staff hardly speaks English, and they hardly have any information to share. Here, we feel we are in very good hands, and we feel we have fruitful and interesting discussions regarding mutual interests, such as design and indigenous flora. We are soon back at Dokmai Garden again, and meanwhile we have a German anthropologist, Anja Rohde, taking care of our guests.

The Soneva Kiri resort has a Cessna and a private runway. The flight from Bangkok is very smooth; you will sleep like a child…

We were just consulted in giving feedback on various questions such as erosion control along paths, edible plants garden, the beach, and excursion destinations.

      Cheers, Eric
