Breaking news: the Medusa orchid is in blossom!

August 11, 2010

We make a break in the suite of photo contest pictures since a spectacular plant currently displays its flowers at Dokmai Garden. The Medusa orchid (Habenaria medusa syn. H. myriotricha) is a fantastic terrestrial orchid with a lip composed of spreading filaments. It is native to Indonesia, Vietnam and Laos. As far as I know it has not been found in Thailand yet, but now is the time to search for it. At Dokmai garden we have two specimens which are a part of the Corien and Folbert Bronsema orchid donation.
