The winners of the photo contest – first prize

August 6, 2010

The winning photograph of the Dokmai Garden photo contest  shows a Thai diurnal hawk moth (Macroglossum gyrans) feeding from a Golden Dewdrop (Duranta erecta) flower. Insects in books are often pictured in their dead and mounted stage, which might be useful for identification but not justifying the splendour of life. This picture is vibrating of life. We particularly enjoy the hawk moth’s eye, mirroring a fantastic being rather than ‘just a bug’. The picture was taken by Wyndham Hollis, Chiang Mai. Congratulations Wyndham!
