Coelogyne trinervis in blossom!

July 22, 2010

Coelogyne trinervis is a lovely Thai orchid with white and fudge-brown colours, reminding me of childhood’s candy. After taking the picture below, we pollinated two flowers (saving three for you to see), aiming at producing seedlings. You can admire it when you come to Dokmai Garden for Sunday’s talk on medicinal plants. This orchid is part of the Corien and Folbert Bronsema orchid donation.

This is the July blooming form.

Update: This is another specimen which bloomed one month later (August 31, 2011). Since the species is reported to grow from 100 meters altitude in deciduous forests, we shall immediately transplant a string of three pseudobulbs into Dokmai Garden as a part of the Orchid Ark efforts.
