Plants in our sales nursery – Striped Barleria cristata – a perfect hedge!

June 1, 2010

Barleria cristata (Acanthaceae) is native to Lanna (northern Thailand). The flowers are usually blue, but there is a garden cultivar with charming striped flowers. This cultivar is perfect for making a low hedge (1m) with flowers in a dry monsoon garden. At Dokmai Garden we do not prune it, we simply allow it grow like a fountain. It is very prolific, and can stand drought well, although watering is of course preferable.
